Is Concierge Medicine the Future of Private Practice?
By Muhammad T. Padela, MD, MSc · October 11, 2026
Concierge medicine is growing for a simple reason: patients want time with their doctor, and doctors want to give it. Patients pay a membership fee for a physician with a smaller panel, same or next day visits, and a direct line when something comes up. The model started in primary care and is now moving into orthopedics and spine care. It often works alongside insurance rather than replacing it, and it isn't right for every patient. But for private practice, it may show where medicine is heading: fewer patients, more time, and care built around the relationship instead of the clock.
