Careful diagnosis
Symptoms, examination, imaging, prior treatment, and the patient’s goals are considered together.
About the physician
An orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in spine surgery and adult reconstruction, focused on evaluating how the spine, pelvis, hip, and knee interact.
Dr. Padela completed fellowship training in spine surgery at the University of California, Davis and Shriners Children’s Northern California after completing an adult reconstruction fellowship at Yale. He completed orthopedic surgery residency training at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center.
His combined training supports a comprehensive assessment of patients whose symptoms may overlap across the lumbar spine, pelvis, hip, and knee. The aim is not to default to a particular procedure, but to identify the likely source of symptoms and explain the reasonable treatment paths.
The practice philosophy is simple: surgery should be recommended when it is likely to improve the patient's condition, and patients deserve a direct explanation when it is not.
His clinical interests include degenerative spine disease, motion-preserving spine care, hip-spine relationships, primary hip and knee replacement, and evidence-based outcomes.
Practice principles
Symptoms, examination, imaging, prior treatment, and the patient’s goals are considered together.
Benefits, risks, alternatives, limitations, and recovery expectations should be understandable before treatment.
Care is coordinated with primary care, therapy, pain management, and other specialists when needed.
